GEO & AI visibility pricing

AI visibility work costs $1,500 for a one-off audit and $3,000 to $6,000 a month on retainer, with monitoring alone at $750 a month.

Why do I publish prices when almost nobody else does?

Because a hidden price is a filter that works in the wrong direction. If $3,000 a month is outside your budget, you find that out on a call in week two, having spent an hour of your time and an hour of mine to learn something a table could have told you in four seconds. Publishing the number ends those conversations before they start, which is good for both of us.

There is a second reason, less comfortable. In a market this new, an unpublished price is usually a variable price — quoted against how much budget the buyer seems to have rather than how much work the engagement takes. I would rather be the consultant whose number you can check against the market than the one whose proposal arrives after a discovery call about your funding round.

So the whole thing is below, including the market context that shows where I sit relative to agencies and freelancers, and the statistical reason my retainers have a three-month floor.

What does each engagement cost?

Four ways to work together, and most clients start with the first one. The audit is deliberately sold as a standalone product rather than a lead magnet: you can take the report to another consultant, hand it to your own team, or do nothing with it. Roughly half of audits do not turn into a retainer, and that is a feature of the pricing, not a leak in it.

Package Price Timing What's included
AI Visibility Audit $1,500 10 working days 150–200 prompts × 3 runs, 4+ engines, competitor benchmark, crawler access check, cited-source inventory, prioritised backlog, prompt set as a file you own
Monitoring $750 / mo weekly runs Frozen set of 50–100 prompts, weekly runs, per-engine interval reporting, alerts only when a move clears the interval
Full GEO retainer from $3,000 / mo 3 months min. Monitoring plus technical clean-up, work on the third-party sources engines cite, and content built to be quoted — implemented, not just specified
Advisory call $250 / hour one-off Review someone else's proposal, sanity-check a plan, or answer your team's questions with no engagement attached

Prices in USD, excluding VAT where applicable. No setup fees, no tool markups — if a paid tool is needed, you buy it directly at cost.

What moves the price up or down?

Click a driver to see the effect

Four things determine where in the range you land, and none of them is how much budget you appear to have. Each one changes the number of answers I have to collect or the amount of implementation work that follows, which is the only honest basis for a price difference in this work.

Why it matters

Every prompt multiplies by the number of runs and engines, so the set size is the main driver of how many answers have to be collected, read and coded. A 200-prompt audit means around 2,400 answers to classify.

Typical range

50 prompts for a narrow single-product category, up to 300 where you sell several products into several buyer roles.

Effect on the quote

±$800

On the audit. Below 50 prompts the interval gets too wide to be worth reporting.

The three-month floor

Why is there a three-month minimum on retainers?

Because a one-month change in AI visibility cannot be interpreted, and I am not willing to invoice you for a number I would have to caveat into meaninglessness. The set of domains engines cite rotates by 40 to 60% month over month on its own, with nobody doing any work at all. Against that much natural churn, a single monthly delta tells you approximately nothing about whether your money did anything.

The same instability shows up in Google's AI Overviews: comparing which pages appear across a two-month window, only about 18% persist, against roughly 45% for ordinary organic results. So the surface you are trying to influence is between two and three times less stable than the one your SEO reporting was built for.

Three cycles is the shortest honest window: one to establish the baseline, one to make changes, one to see whether the movement clears the interval. Ask any consultant offering month-to-month AI visibility retainers how they separate their work from that 40–60% churn. It is the single most useful question you can put to anyone selling this, including me.

Monthly rotation in cited domains 40–60%
AI Overviews pages persisting over two months 18%
Organic results persisting over the same window 45%
Chance of an identical answer list on a repeat run under 1%

Independent measurements, sources and dates listed in /research/. None of these are my own client results.

How does this compare to the rest of the market?

Here is the honest spread, so you can see where I sit and decide whether that is the right band for you. I am deliberately in the middle: more expensive than a productised subscription, considerably cheaper than an agency retainer, and I do the work myself rather than pass it to a junior. If your problem is genuinely enterprise-scale — many markets, many languages, legal review on every asset — the top band exists for a reason and I will tell you to go there.

Freelance / project work

$150 – $2,000 per project

One-off audits and fixes. Quality varies enormously and the measurement is usually a single manual pass.

Productised subscriptions

$500 – $2,500 / month

Tool-led monitoring with a light service layer. Good for tracking, rarely does implementation.

Independent consultant — where I sit

$1,500 audit · $3,000–6,000 / mo

One person doing both measurement and implementation, with published method and no account-management layer.

Mid-market agencies

$2,000 – $8,000 / month

Team capacity and content volume, usually delivered by mixed-seniority staff against a shared playbook.

Enterprise agencies

$10,000 – $30,000+ / month

Many markets, many languages, legal and brand review. Genuinely necessary at that scale — and overkill below it.

Questions about money

The ones that decide whether we work together, answered before you have to ask them on a call.

A one-off AI visibility audit is $1,500, monitoring is $750 a month, and a full GEO retainer starts at $3,000 a month with a three-month minimum. Advisory calls are $250 an hour with nothing attached.

Because the work is genuinely fixed: a defined prompt-set size, a defined number of runs and engines, and a report in a defined format. Anything I cannot scope in advance I do not sell as a fixed price.

No, and roughly half of audits do not turn into one. The report is written so that your own team or another consultant can act on it without me, including the prompt set as a file you own.

Because the domains engines cite rotate by 40 to 60% each month on their own, so a single monthly delta cannot separate my work from background churn. Three cycles is the shortest window in which a change can clear the interval.

Then that is the finding, and you have paid $1,500 to avoid a $36,000 annual retainer you did not need. You keep the baseline, so when the category does move you can measure against it.

Considerably, at the mid-market band — agencies run $2,000 to $8,000 a month and enterprise shops go well past $10,000. What you give up is team capacity: I take four to six clients and cannot scale content production the way an agency can.

None from me. If a paid tool genuinely helps your case, you buy it directly at list price and own the account — I do not resell software or take margin on it.

Process guarantees, not outcome guarantees: the agreed prompt set, run counts, engines and reporting cadence, delivered on schedule. Nobody can guarantee a position in an AI answer, and a consultant who does is selling certainty they do not have.

Start with the $1,500 audit.

One price, ten working days, no retainer attached. If the audit concludes that your category is not worth the spend yet, that is what the report will say — and you will still own the baseline for when it is.
